School of Music

School of Music began to offer undergraduate programs in 2006 and can be further traced back to the major of music in 1996. There are 29 faculty members and staff who are now working in 4 teaching and research sections, including public music and the history & the studies of music, vocal music, keyboard instrument, orchestral instrument & dancing. Among the 23 faculty members, 8 of them are professors and associate professors and 19 have received Master’s Degree. TheSchoolofMusicconsists of the department of music, the department of art practice and the Research Center of Puxian Music.

The School now has substantial teaching resources, including an audiovisual reference room and studios for rehearsing,MIDI, digital piano and electronic organ. With a large variety of traditional and western musical instruments, the School can sufficiently meet the demands of teaching and research. In addition, it has set up 8 bases for teaching practice and 3 bases for art practice, which, in an effective way, guarantees that the students can successfully fulfill their internship requirement and perform their art practice.

Holding the objective of professionalism and high quality, the School encourages teachers and students to participate in various teaching and research, art practice and musical competitions. By the end of 2012, nearly 200 papers and pieces of music have been published in journals at all levels. Furthermore, it also combines teaching, researching and practicing in order to turn out teachers and graduates that excel in both academic research and workplaces. Up to now, almost 100 teachers and students have won awards at national, provincial and municipal levels. Students are trained to be innovative, creative as well as adept at their majors.
