School of Art and Craft was newly established in June, 2013. It was originally named the Art Department in 1992, and can be traced back further to the Art Department of Xinghua Vocational College in 1989. It offers four undergraduate programs, Fine Arts, Art & Craft, Visual Communication Design and Environmental Design. Among the four programs, the latter two have been offered in an in-depth collaboration with National Hsinchu University of Education, Taiwan and Chaoyang University of Technology, Taiwan. Currently, there are 44 faculty members and staff. Of the 38 faculty members, 23 have got their Master’s Degree and 18 hold positions at the level of professor or associate professor. Presently, the School has a student body of about 847 undergraduates.
The School now has substantial teaching resources. By establishing cooperation relations with high schools and companies, it has set up quite a few bases of teaching practice, of art practice and of landscape painting, which soundly ensures that the students can be trained to be technically adept.
The School sticks to the notion of cultivating talents through practice and focuses on training the students’ practical ability and innovative spirit. Therefore, in recent years, the employment rate remains above 90%, and furthermore, the graduates have won the favor of the employing units owing to their ability, willingness and capability in work performance.
