I. Overview

Putian University (PTU), a full-time undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education in March 2002, is located in Putian, a coastal city in southeast Fujian, the home of Mazu-"Goddess of Peace" at sea, and one of famous hometowns of overseas Chinese. PTU has been awarded the patriotism education base of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, the National Verdurization Model Unit, the Advanced Unit of National Fitness Activities, the Advanced Unit of Mental Health Education of the Chinese Psychological Association, the Civilized School of Fujian Province, the Safe Campus and the Garden-style Unit of Fujian Province.

The campus covers an area of 111.12 hectares (1666.8 mu), and the planned new campus covers an area of 198 hectares (2970 mu). The building area of the school is 528,500 square meters. The total value of teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment reached 255 million yuan, and the collection of paper books reached 1.286 million copies. The first phase of the new campus has been completed and put into use.

The university consists of 17 schools with 52 undergraduate majors, such as the School of Culture and Communication, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Mathematics and Finance, the School of Environmental and Biological Engineering, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Information Engineering, the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Art and Craft, the School of Music, the School of Physical Education, the School of Management, the School of Business, the School of Nursing, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Medical Technology, the Afflicted Clinic School, the School of Fundamental Education and the New Engineering Industry College.

PTU has launched Government-Industry-Education-Research collaborations with more than 150 enterprises and institutions, such as the Institute of History of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Fujian Huajiacai Co., Ltd., etc. The university has steadily promoted international exchanges and cooperation with more than 20 foreign universities such as Dundee University in the United Kingdom and Massey University in New Zealand, and has jointly sponsored the major of Medical and Health Industry Management with the University of New Orleans in the United States.PTU ranks among the top 500 international competitiveness rankings of Chinese universities. Teachers and students frequently visit and study abroad.

II. Admission Category

1. Non-academic program (for language students): The duration of study may vary from six months to one year or two years. The term starts in March and September each year and will be classified according to the level of Chinese. Language students who conform to Putian University's regulations on student status and examination management will receive a certificate of study after graduation.

2. Degree program (for undergraduates): Length of undergraduate program is 4 years (some programs may take 5 years), and the term starts in every September. Currently, 52 undergraduate programs at PTU are on offer for enrolling international students, from which students can choose as their majors according to their own wishes. Cultivation objective: To cultivate applied talents who can meet the needs of modern international society and develop in an all-round way. Language of instruction: Chinese or English. Diploma awarded: Putian University diploma. Degree: Bachelor's degree.

III. Application Eligibility

1. Basic conditions

(1) Applicants with good moral character are willing to abide by Chinese laws and regulations, Putian University discipline and school rules, and respect China's social morality and customs.

2. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens aged between 18 and 30and hold valid foreign ordinary passports, in good health, friendly to China, with no criminal record abroad.

3. Residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who have emigrated to other countries must hold valid foreign passports and nationality certificates for more than four years (including 4 years). In the last four years (up to April 30 of the year of admission), they have recorded their actual residence abroad for more than two years. The full nine months can be calculated on a one-year basis, subject to exit and entry signatures.

(2) Other conditions

① Language students

Applicants should have high school education or above (equivalent to the level of sixth grade education in middle school).

2. Undergraduate students

(1) Applicants should have high school education level and above (equivalent to the sixth grade of secondary school education level), with good high school performance;

(2) With a certain level of Chinese. Chinese proficiency test (HSK) level 4 or above.

IV. Application Time

Language students and undergraduates: both applications should be submitted before April 30 every year.

③ Letter of recommendation (at least one letter, written in Chinese or English, with the personal signature of the reference or the official seal of the reference).

If you have a resume and other documents that can prove your comprehensive ability (such as certificate of award, certificate of participation in social practice, etc.), please attach them.

Please submit the complete application materials in one time and arrange them in the above order. In addition, notarized English and Chinese translations of the above materials are required if they are not in English. 1. Qualification Examination: After receipt of the application form, we will examine your application for admission and post the results of the examination onto our website (http://www.ptu.edu.cn/) as soon as possible. After confirmation of the admission list, we will send the “Notice of Admission” and “Application Form for Visa for International Students to China” (JW202). It takes at least eight weeks from the applicant’s application to the letter of admission.

2. Processing visas to China: The applicants who want to study at PTU should apply for visas to China at Chinese embassies and consulates abroad with passports, photographs, records of physical examination of foreigners, admission notice and JW202 form. Generally speaking, it is recommended to apply for study visas (X1 visa, it must be replaced by the residence permit within 30 days after entry. )

3. Registration: Please bring the original certificates such as passport, admission notice, JW202 form and so on, and register at the Academic Affairs Department of Putian University at the time specified in the admission notice. In order to avoid the trouble caused by the expiration of the visa, please register atPTU as soon as possible after arrival in China. Those who can’t register within the stipulated date due to special circumstances should contact our school in advance and be allowed to postpone admission for up to two weeks. Those who fail to take leave or whose leave is overdue shall be disqualified from enrollment except for legitimate reasons such as force majeure.

4. Expense payment: tuition fees and accommodation fees are payable after arriving school.

VIII. Insurance

All students who come to China must buy sufficient insurance covering their study time; insurance should at least include accident insurance and medical insurance. Students can buy insurance before or after coming to China. At the time of registration, students are required to submit insurance policies including accident and medical insurance issued by insurance companies (or other relevant institutions) in Chinese or English. Those who have not purchased the required medical insurance will not go through the registration formalities.

IX Scholarship

PTU offers two scholarships for language and undergraduate students who study for one year or more:

1. Government Scholarship

Those who meet the requirements can apply for scholarships for international students from Fujian Provincial Government.

2. Putian University International Student Scholarship

Our school sets up its own scholarship, which is selected once a year. According to the assessment of the students’ achievements and other materials, the school will select scholarships once a year. The highest amount is a full scholarship (including tuition fee for one year, accommodation fee,  registration, medical insurance and subsistence allowance). 

X. Campus culture and lif

1. Campus culture

PTU regularly host a wide range of cultural events and sports activities for students with assistance from the associations through the platform of the Festival of University StudentsCulture and Art and sports meetings. PTU focuses on the cultivation of "Mazu Culture onto Campus", "Elegant Art onto Campus", "Excellent Traditional Culture onto Campus" and other brand activities, covering the Campus Top Ten Singers Competition, “Puxian Opera onto Campus”, “University Debate Competition”, “Healthy Life Culture Festival”, “League Group Tour Festival”and a series of popular and elegant activities to enrich the "second classroom" of young students. At present, there are 120 registered associations on campus. Each Student Association extensively carries out various activities inside and outside the school, nearly 300 times a year, with more than 21,000 participants.

2. Dormitory conditions

Putian University is equipped with dormitories of different specifications and conditions to need the demands of international students. There are two-person rooms and some four-person rooms. The dorms are well-equipped with independent bathrooms, shower rooms, Internet interface, air conditioners and so on.

3. Diet

Puxian cuisine is an important part of Chinese cuisine. It tastes light, especially seafood. Students can also choose to dine in any of the 8 canteens on campus that provide a wide variety of cuisines, providing rice and noodles, rich in variety and reasonable nutrition. The variety provided by canteens mainly includes spicy pot, Muslim food, covered rice, fried chicken, stewed noodles, fish meal, health porridge, nourishing stew pot, fine household dishes and other meals.

4. Medical treatment

Putian University has a clinic to provide high-quality and convenient general practice services for students.Medical and health care services can be provided, including diagnosis and treatment of common diseases, blood pressure monitoring, heart rate examination, wound sterilization and dressing change. In addition, the Emergency Department of the Affiliated Hospital of Putian University has opened a 24-hour green channel for our school. 5. Traffic

All freshmen who have been admitted by our school can transfer to Putian Station by EMU when they arrive in Fuzhou or Xiamen by plane. Our school can offer the first free ride at Putian Station. Please inform our school of the number and date of your train in writing in advance.

XI. Study costs

1. Application fee: RMB 400 (payable upon registration at PTU)

2. Tuition fee

Note: Half-year language students should pay half a year’s tuition fee at the time of enrollment, while other international students should pay the whole year’s tuition fee at the time of enrollment. Once the tuition fee is paid, it will not be refunded except for force majeure. If the fee standard is adjusted, the school will publish relevant information on the website in time.

3. Accommodation fee

The cost standard is RMB 2600 per year for two-person rooms and RMB 1300 per year per person for four-person rooms.

4. Other related expenses

Including teaching material fee, internship fee, residence permit fee, etc., the specific cost is based on the actual price.

XII. Others

1. Financial Support Guarantee Statement: When submitting application materials, allapplicants must submit “Financial Support Guarantee Statement”which is provided to guarantee the cost of study, living and international travel toPTU. According to the local economic and living standards, the cost for a school year is about RMB 40,000.

2. School transfer and major transfers: With the consent of the original school and Putian University, international students from other schools can apply for transferring into our school. In addition, after learning and reaching the level of Chinese (HSK) 4, language students can apply to transfer to undergraduates (undergraduates) majoring in Chinese Language and Literature.

3. Disposal of irregularities: Please provide all the application materials truthfully. If any falsification is found, enrollment will be disqualified.
